On the 2nd of August, we had the pleasure of hosting a masterclass at Sonova’s Singapore office centered around the theme “Well-Hearing is Well-Being.” The event featured two distinguished speakers, Janani Jeyaraman and Nicole Da Rocha, both of whom brought over 15 years of clinical experience to the table. Janani Jeyaraman, a Speech Language Pathologist, specializes in auditory rehabilitation for pediatric and adult cochlear implant users, holding professional certifications in the Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) approach and the Hanen approach. Nicole Da Rocha, a Speech Language Pathologist and Clinical Audiologist, has a rich background in transdisciplinary and family-centered hearing healthcare for both pediatric and adult patients.
The masterclass covered several critical topics. One highlight was the discussion on Cognition and Hearing, where we explored the link between hearing loss and dementia and introduced the Cogstate Brief Battery. Another key focus was on Future Trends in Aural Rehabilitation, offering insights into how technology, such as VR games, is being used to train spatial hearing skills in children. Additionally, the event shed light on Adult Living Guidelines, providing an overview of the patient journey for adults with cochlear implants and underscoring the importance of regular hearing screening.
We were delighted to welcome professionals from major hospitals, including Singapore General Hospital, National University Hospital – NUH, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Changi General Hospital (CGH), and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, as well as representatives from private therapy providers like Speech Therapy Adventures and Hear My Voice. The collective expertise and engagement of all attendees significantly enriched the discussions.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and contributed to this event. Together, we are making strides in advancing the field of hearing healthcare and promoting the essential role of well-hearing in overall well-being.
